• What airport do I fly in to for the Retreats?

Ixtapa/Zihuataneo (ZIH), and then it is a 40 minute drive to Troncones.  Alaska Airlines has flights directly from LAX to ZIH several times per week.

  • How do I get from the airport to the Villa?

Vicki will arrange a taxi that will be waiting for you.

  • Do I need a passport?

Yes, and make sure it is valid for longer than 6 months beyond your return to the US.  You also need a book passport, not just a passport card.

  • Do I need cash at the Villa for anything?

Villa and Retreat staff very much appreciate your gratuities.  Surfing lessons/board rentals, horseback rides, kayak excursions, hot springs and Temezcal outings are all NOT included in your Retreat fee and so cash will be needed for those things.

  • Should I bring US Dollars or how do I get Mexican currency?

There is one ATM at Maria's Tienda in town where you can get Pesos.  Some of the restaurants will take/exchange dollars, but the exchange rate will be about 20% worse.

  • Do I have to share a room?

The Villa has 6 separate bedrooms, and only 3 of them have two beds for Double occupancy.  The three Singles are first come, first served.

  • How close is the Villa to town?

It is a 5 minute walk to the main street, where there are numerous tiendas to buy groceries, alcohol, and beach items. There are also numerous little shops, taquerias, a pharmacy and a medical clinic.

  • Is it safe in this area?

Yes, in the 6 months I have spent there I have never felt threatened or unsafe at night or in the day.  I even left my wallet in two different places and it was right where I left it an hour later!

  • How do we get to and from the Ranch for our Equine Learning Sessions?

Vicki will arrange for a taxi to come pick you up and take you back.  It is a 10 minute ride along the beach road.  Or, you can ride a horse! (extra fee applies)

  • Can I ride horses during my free time?

Yes, guided beach or trail rides of all lengths can be arranged and the horses will be brought to you at the Villa.  It is about $25 per hour plus gratuity.

  • Can I go surfing?

The town of La Saladita has an excellent wave for beginners.  It is a 20 minute drive north, and taxis there and back can be arranged any time.  Vicki can arrange surf lessons for you there or even in Troncones if the conditions warrant.  If you are experienced, there are many fun beach breaks within walking distance of the Villa that work from July-February.  Manzanillo Bay, a 5 minute drive up the Beach Road on the way to the horse ranch, is a great intermediate to advanced wave that works as long as there's 2-3 feet of swell.  A five minute walk from the horse ranch is La Boca, a very fun beach break that works on all swells. For those of you who want to make a day of it, the spot called The Ranch is a 45 minute drive north.  It has a super fun left and a separate right around the corner, with THE BEST little restaurant right there on the beach!   Boards of all sizes can be rented in Troncones or you can bring your own.

  • If I'm having a great time and don't want to leave, can I extend into the next Retreat if there is an open spot?

Of course!  Vicki can also help you find accomodations in Troncones before or after your Retreat if you'd like to come early or stay late.
